One of the most vexing problems affecting those bereaved by suicide is the lack of access to available resources. Colorado Grief Care is a Postvention Alliance project to help connect bereaved individuals to help in their communities.
The idea for a navigator website specific to suicide loss in Colorado was developed through Western Slope LOSSteam and Pathways focus groups during the summer of 2021.
The focus groups were inspired by Frank Campbell’s assertion that “postvention is a movement, not a franchise.” In that spirit of open collaboration, Postvention Alliance, Friends for Survival, the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Jefferson, Clear Creek, and Gilpin Counties, and Heartbeat Grand Junction have worked together to share and produce online and print resources. The downloadable resources on this site are offered at no cost to Colorado communities.
Rocky Mountain Health Foundation and Western Colorado Community Foundation provided the seed money for this website.
Rocky Mountain Health Foundation provided the first print run of Mesa County’s When Someone You Love Dies of Suicide and Grief After Suicide pamphlets, distribution advised by Victor Yahn and the Heartbeat of Grand Junction steering committee.
